Abstract
Diabetic nephropathy is a complication of DM in kidneys, which occurs due to a decrease in glomerular filtration rate, which can result in kidney failure. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds in red distance leaf extracts, the effect, the effective dose of extracts on the regeneration of rat’ kidney organ cells induced with streptozotocin. The rats were divided into five groups: a normal control, a negative control, and treatment groups administered with various extract doses of 300, 400, and 500 mg/kg BW. The study method was a laboratory experiment observing the changes in kidney tubules of white male rats in the form of a damage level with a calculated value based on a percentage on each part of the injured, damaged tubules. The results showed that the red Jatropha extract positively containing secondary metabolites of flavonoids, alkaloids, phenols, saponis, tannins. The red Jatropha leaf extract administration with a dose of 500 mg/kg BW affected the regeneration of kidney tubular cells in STZ induced rats, with an average damage value of 1 from maximum of 2, but the study only lasted until day 21 and on day 22 the rats died, then the study was stopped.
